Igreja da Sé
Avenida Pedro II, São Luís.
Started being built in1690 and has been rehabilitated several times,
the last time durin the Roseana Sarney administration. The altar-mor
is a vivid and beautiful example of colonial Portuguese art. It is a
true treasure of the religious Brazilian art collection.
Igreja de São José do Desterro
Bairro do Desterro, São Luís.
It is built on one of the oldest religious sites in Sao Luis. The original
church was destroyed during the Dutch invasion, in 1641. In 1832, the
building was again destroyed and then re-built by José Lé
with donations from himself and friends.
Igreja dos Remédios
Rua Rio Branco, em frente á Praça Gonçalves Dias,
São Luís.
With gothic characteristics, the Igreja dos Remedios was built during
the 18th century. It was rebuilt during the 19th century by Francisco
Xavier after having been in dissaray for a short period of time.
Igreja de São Pantaleão
Rua de São Pantaleão, São Luís.
It's construction started in 1780 and concluded in 1817. It was initially
built by Pantaleão Rodrigues de Castro. For a while the Casa
da Roda dos Enjeitados or Casa dos Expostos functioned next door where
babies were left by parents who could not raise them.

Built in 1665 by Governor Rui Vaz de Siqueira.
Igreja do Rosário

A história dessa igreja começou em 1717, quando os frades
carmelitas, considerando que "os pretinhos irmãos da Virgem
Nossa Senhora estavam unidos e conformes para fundar uma ermida dedicada
à mesma santa e por não terem sítio onde a fundassem",
doaram à irmandade um terreno no então Carmo Velho. Seriam
originais na igreja apenas parte do revestimento das paredes laterais
da capela-mor, constituído por azulejos formando painéis,
e os altares laterais.
Igreja de Santana
Rua de Santana - Centro, São Luís.
Built in the 18th century, predominantly in the neoclassic style, with
baroque motifs. It features Portuguese tiles and a beautiful well preserved
panel.
Igreja de Santo Antônio
Largo de Santo Antônio - Centro, São Luís.
Next to a convent built in 1626, the church was built later, in the
19th century, opening on January 20, 1867. The convent is tied to many
curious stories, such as the lawsuit brought up by the Fanciscano priests
against a group of ants found at the building. The interior features
the Capela do Senhor Bom Jesus dos Navegantes and the Capela do Senhor
Bom Jesus da Coluna.
Igreja e Convento do Carmo
Largo do Carmo - Centro, São Luís.
Located at the heart of the old part of the City, past memebers of the
Church and Convent have witnessed important historic moments such as
the war against the Dutch, when it served as a fortress for the Portuguese
against the invaders.
Capela das Laranjeiras
Rua Grande - Centro, São Luís.
Also known as the Quinta do Barão, it is currently part of the
Colégio Maranhense (Maristas). It was built in 1811 and has a
varanda with a lateral entrance and a beautiful sacristia. Next to it
are the beautiful gates to the Quinta das Laranjeiras, where we can
see the emblem of the Barão de Bajé.
