The Teatro Arthur Azevedo is one of the most beautiful in the country. It opened in 1817 and has since been an integral part of the local history. The church was opposed to it in the beginning because it faced the Igreja do Carmo. In one of its dressing rooms was born the great local actress Apolônia Pinto.
